Rooted in Love

Black Maternal Health Week Block Party

Celebrating Black motherhood. Connecting families to resources. Creating solutions together.

Presented annually by One Happy Mama

Why Rooted in Love Exists

More Than a Block Party

Black mothers deserve more than conversations about disparities—they deserve solutions, support, resources and spaces that celebrate their joy.

One Happy Mama created the Rooted in Love Black Maternal Health Week Block Party to bring those things directly into the community. Each year, mothers, families, healthcare providers, advocates, community organizations and local businesses come together for an afternoon centered on maternal wellness, education, connection and celebration.

From health screenings and community resources to honest conversations, family activities, wellness experiences, food and music, Rooted in Love creates a space where Black maternal health is addressed while Black motherhood is celebrated.

Our History

Three Years. One Growing Village.

What began as a vision to create a space centered on Black maternal health, community and joy has grown into one of One Happy Mama’s signature community initiatives.

For three years, Rooted in Love has brought families, community organizations, healthcare providers, advocates and supporters together during Black Maternal Health Week to learn, connect, celebrate and take action.

Where It All Began

Our first Rooted in Love Black Maternal Health Week Block Party brought our vision to life: creating a joyful, welcoming space where mothers and families could connect with resources, build community, and celebrate Black motherhood. What began as an idea rooted in love and community became the foundation for a tradition we knew we wanted to continue.

Growing the Village

In our second year, Rooted in Love grew even bigger, bringing together hundreds of mothers, families, community partners, and supporters for a day centered on Black maternal health, education, resources, and joy. From meaningful conversations and wellness resources to baby essentials, family activities, food, and connection, the Block Party continued to show what’s possible when a community comes together to support its mamas.

Rooted in Community

Our third annual Rooted in Love brought the Block Party to Bayou Road, creating an even larger community experience centered on solutions, wellness, and Black maternal joy. With more than 20 community partners, maternal health and wellness services, family activities, four powerful panel conversations, and special guest Tatyana Ali, families had opportunities to access resources, learn, connect, and celebrate together. Our third year reminded us that addressing Black maternal health isn’t only about identifying the challenges—it’s about building solutions together and creating communities where mothers can thrive.
